A visit to Turin, Italy reveals a city with a notable heritage of Jewish writers and scientists. President of the Turin Jewish community, Dario Designi, can trace his family roots back centuries to this northern Italian city known for its galleries, palaces and piazzas. Designi is also the chairman of a new museum being constructed in the city that pays tribute and memorializes the city’s rich Jewish heritage as well and showcases how it was impacted by the Holocaust. We spoke to him about the challenges facing the city’s dwindling Jewish population and how he is working to bring the story of Italy’s ancient Jewish life to a modern era.
