United Jerusalem

United Jerusalem

The brouhaha surrounding American-Israel relations is being fueled solely by the Obama administration, which is finally learning that the world has a mind of its own (“Clinton Softens Rhetoric, But Differences Linger,” March 19). He was only elected as president of the United States, and the United States does not rule the world, as powerful as she may be.

No Israeli government could stop building in Jerusalem. Jerusalem has been united since 1967 and all of its citizens prefer it that way. No one wants a Mandelbaum Gate again or a divided city. Beirut failed when it was divided and virtually all cities in the world exist as integrated wholes with ethnic minorities.
