The heartfelt editorial, “Why The Delay in Ethiopian Jewish Aliyah?” (Dec. 30), was right on the mark.

There’s a striking contrast between 4,500 Falash Mura, already approved for aliyah, still stagnating in Ethiopia for alleged lack of budget in Israel, and Israel’s success in bringing in 200,000 Soviet Jews in 1990 alone. But we in America can’t just point fingers. We have a deep responsibility to assist Israel financially absorb Ethiopian olim through support for local Jewish federations, the North American Conference on Ethiopian Jews’ exemplary supplementary educational programs or requesting Congress to provide foreign aid grants, as it did for olim from the Soviet Union.
