New Hyde Park, NY, May 1, 2018 — A Torah Scroll was recently installed at Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation. The scroll was donated by the Raab Family, on behalf and in memory of the late Rabbi Robert A. Raab, a former Parker patient. A dedication and blessing ceremony was held at Parker by Joel Raab, the Rabbi’s son, on Friday April 27, 2018.
“On behalf of the entire Parker family, we are grateful and thankful to Dr. Marjorie Raab, Joel Raab and the family for their gift and kindness,” stated Michael N. Rosenblut, Parker’s President and CEO. The scroll was presented to Rosenblut and Jerry Landsberg, Parker Board of Trustees member, by Joel Raab and his mother, Dr. Marjorie Raab. Afterwards, Raab Family members reminisced about the Rabbi’s legacy as a long-time religious leader on Long Island.
Rabbi Robert A. Raab passed away in 2010 and served as head of the Suburban Temple in Wantagh, Long Island, for 36 years.
The Torah originally came from Temple Adath Israel of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and was brought to Long Island after that Temple closed. The Torah’s new, permanent home is the Sanctuary of Parker’s auditorium.
