I very much enjoyed Rabbi Brad Hirschfield’s thought-provoking Opinion piece, “Guess Who’s Coming to Seder?” (March 30), and used it as a springboard to discuss his idea with my family. If they could choose anyone to join in our Pesach seder, who would they want to be there?
My children's answers varied from our family in Israel to the biblical Miriam to the Super Mario Brothers. I would be very happy to set an extra seat for any of these additional guests at our seder table. However, there is one seat that I am thrilled not to be setting this year. You see, for the past several years, while he was in captivity, we have always set a seat for Gilad Shalit at our seder table. I share the joy that the Shalit family must be feeling to have their son — our son — home for Pesach this year.
