On Waiting For An Apology

Elana Maryles Sztokman is waiting for an apology from Orthodox men “who are so easily
counted and heeded, who have a voice and a place and are free to participate
in the community practically any way that their hearts desire” (“My Feminist Struggles With Yom Kippur,” Opinion, Oct. 3).

I am sorry that her education and feminism did not
allow her to truly understand what Orthodoxy is about. I am sorry that she doesn’t understand that many Orthodox women consider
themselves to be a “full and equal” partners in the Jewish community, except that their ordained roles are different than those of men.
