So I ran into a guy I dated when I first came to Israel.
I mean, really when I first got here. Boy was I a mess back then! Not alls-grown up the way I am now, nearly two years later.
Anyway, we hadn’t seen each other in a while, and so we stood on the street corner talking and catching up. Having ourselves a little love fest.
The thing is, we always liked each other. At least, I always liked him. And really, what’s not to like?
The guy teaches literature, for one. That automatically makes him a gem in my eyes. And he has a terrific laugh, which is another way of saying, he laughs at all my jokes. Which is really another way of saying he’s very smart and perceptive.
It’s just that we were not a romantic match. Because of my, er, limitations, I probably hastened the demise of whatever had started between us, but at the end of the day, we weren’t "it," if you know what I mean. And me thinks that you do.
No matter. The point is he met someone. And not just anyone, but a poet. A blonde poet! Or was it a blind poet, I can’t remember.
Or perhaps he is the blind poet and his girlfriend, who is not 100% his girlfriend because of some complications, is his muse?
Which is another way of saying, I’m not such a good listener.
Which is really another way of saying, if only running into old flames were always this nice!
