Women’s Initiative for Jewish Studies presents Dr. Sylvia Barack Fishman

Dr. Sylvia Barack Fishman will present “Younger Than Springtime? Millennial Jews and the Jewish Future” on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. at Young Israel of New Rochelle, 1149 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY.  The lecture, sponsored by the Women’s Initiative for Jewish Studies, is free and open to women and men.

Dr. Barack Fishman, the author of eight books and numerous articles, writes and speaks about Jewish identity, Israel-Diaspora relations, antisemitism and anti-Zionism, the interplay of American and Jewish values, changes in the American Jewish family, the impact of Jewish education, and portrayals of Jews and Jewishness in fiction and film.

She is an Emerita Professor of Contemporary Jewish Life in the Near Eastern and Judaic Studies Department at Brandeis University. Dr. Barack Fishman was the founding Co-Director of the Hadassah Brandeis Institute (HBI) and she currently edits the HBI Series on Gender and Jewish Women.

Dr. Barack Fishman received The Marshall Sklare Award from the Association for the Social Scientific Study of Jewry (2014).  She is a board member of the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance (JOFA), and received the Samuel Belkin Award for Distinguished Professional Achievement from Yeshiva University/ Stern College, her undergraduate alma mater.
