Women as Champions of Peace and Non-Violence
March 3 , 9:30 am - 2:00 pm
The Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center (SYJCC) is kicking off National Women’s History Month with a thought provoking inspirational day with Gun Control Advocate Linda Beigel Schulman and author/journalist Kimberly Rae Miller.
The keynote speakers will tell their “story” and the actions that they have taken to bring peacefulness into their lives and the lives of others. Linda Beigel Schulman is the mother of Scott Beigel who was the geography teacher and cross-country coach who was shot and killed at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018. A strong and staunch advocate of reasonable gun control on both the State and Federal level, she has actively advocated and succeeded in helping the passage of the “Red Flag Law” in both Florida and New York.
Kimberly Rae Miller is a bestselling author, editor, journalist and blogger. Her memoir Coming Clean is about the years she spent hiding the secret of her father’s out-of-control hording, and the emotional burden that ultimately led to her suicide attempt. Kim is a proponent of supporting healthy living.
In addition to the key note speakers, the day will include an inspirational panel of professionals: Denise V. Rapp, LMSW Trauma Therapist, Susan Berland, Suffolk County Legislator, and Rabbi Jessica Rosenthal, B’nei Israel Reform Temple, as well as a Continental Breakfast, and a Lunch.
