“The Thinking Heart Cantata”
November 5 , 7:00 pm
Etty Hillesum is a new figure of the Holocaust for many in the US. Her journalhas been published in over 60 languages. She has inspired authors from Zen master Robert E. Kennedy to New York Times columnist David Brooks. Mr. Brooks holds her up as an example of great humanity in his new book, The Second Mountain.
Etty refused to let suffering rob life of meaning. The cantata describes that suffering and the dark period that allowed it. And it celebrates the love of life of a woman whose journal ends with the words: “We should be willing to act as a balm for all wounds.”
