The Jewish Experience on Film
October 18, 2018 , 7:30 pm
Throughout the past century, filmmakers have portrayed
the Jewish experience in a variety of ways: sentimental
(“The Jazz Singer” and “Crossing Delancey”), comically
caustic (“Enemies: A Love Story”), intellectually tormented (“Crimes and Misdemeanors” and “A Serious Man”), oppressed (“Fiddler on the Roof”), and politically committed (“Denial” and “Exodus”).
This presentation highlights the laughter, tears, and angst from directors as disparate as Woody Allen, Paul Mazursky, Joan Micklin Silver and the Coen Brothers. Join us as Max Alvarez takes us on a tour of the 20th century through Jewish film.
All are welcome; light refreshments will be served.
