Text and the City: Learning Hebrew in the Street

The Consulate General of Israel to New England presents Guy Sharett, who teaches Hebrew in the Shanghai International Studies University in Shanghai, China, in a discussion of Hebrew as revealed in its natural habitat, the streets of Tel Aviv. He’ll decipher textual graffiti, lost pet ads and stickers and talk about the influence of other languages on Modern Hebrew and celebrate the different cultural and linguistic layers of Israeli society. Moderated by Shayna Weiss, the associate director of the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University.
