Remembering William Helmreich

November 29 , 6:00 pm

Walker in the city: William Helmreich was remembered this week as a “powerhouse” of an academic.
CUNY Graduate Center

Join the Center for Jewish History and The New York Jewish Week for a tribute to William Helmreich, the late sociologist, author, scholar of Judaism and distinguished professor. He walked every street of New York City – more than 6,000 miles – and wrote about his adventures, conversations, and insights in a series of guidebooks that introduce readers anew to the city and its neighborhoods. Featuring Jeffrey S. Gurock, the Libby M. Klaperman Professor of Jewish History at Yeshiva University, and Matt Green, who walked every block of New York City for his film “The World Before Your Feet.” Moderated by Sandee Brawarsky.
