Out of the Box: The Bullfighter from Brooklyn

The series premiere of the Center for Jewish History’s Out of the Box, which reveals the stories found in the untapped archives of the American Jewish Historical Society.

For the first installment, Rachel Miller, director of archive and library services, presents the story of Sidney Franklin, the world’s first Jewish matador. Secretly gay, celebrated, and befriended by the likes of Ernest Hemingway and starring alongside Paulette Goddard and Eddie Cantor, the bullfighter from Brooklyn’s fascinating story is one to hear; no bull.
