Old Dazzle Dazzle: Evening of Lies, Lying, & Liars
September 25 - October 30
“The Old Dazzle Dazzle- An Evening of Lies, Lying and Liars” is the newest show from “immensely talented latter-day Al Jolson” (New York Times), Mark Nadler. Mendacity and half-truths abound in this rich collection of music, chosen by much-honored pianist-singer, Nadler, as a playful reflection on the tenor of our times. Throughout the repertoire and commentary, Mark explores lying from every angle, explaining at the start that everything he says will be a lie. Or will it? Songs – including Dave Frishberg’s “Blizzard of Lies,” celebrating classic white lies, to the lies that lovers tell, as in Murray Grand and Elisse Boyd’s ”Guess Who I Saw Today My Dear?” Several classic favorites for kids in which the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and the Stork make appearances – illustrate, without judgement, this unavoidable part of human nature.
Nadler has written and performed in dozens of touring, Broadway, and off-Broadway productions, as well as on television programs. Some of his more notable productions include American Rhapsody in 1999, an off-Broadway revue based on George Gershwin that won the Manhattan Association of Cabarets Award for Outstanding Musical Revue and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and two Lucille Lortel Awards; Tchaikovsky (and Other Russians), performed at the Algonquin Hotel and the American Conservatory Theater, among other venues, which won the 2003 Bistro Award; and Russian on the Side, based on the Ira Gershwin/Kurt Weill patter song “Tchaikovsky (and Other Russians)”, which played the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Marines Memorial Theater in San Francisco, California. Dance choreography by Germaine Salsberg.
Dates: Sept 25th at 7pm, Oct. 23 at 7pm and Oct. 30th at 9:30pm.
