Jewish Artists in Exile

June 25 - December 31

The new exhibit of the Leo Baeck Institute New York|Berlin presents examples of works from the Institute’s art collection made by German-speaking Jewish artists while they were in exile.

Showcasing a range of painting styles from the 20th century, LBI tells the personal stories of creative individuals being uprooted from their homelands to unfamiliar territories, amongst many personal tragedies. Some artists never again found success after their exile, painting in obscurity for the rest of their lives. Yet in other cases, the forced migration sometimes influenced artistic creativity and lead to new audiences in their new homes.

Free.
