JCCMP Holocust event
November 15, 2018 , 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
This year marks the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, or the “Night of Broken Glass.” It was on November 9-10 in 1938 that a wave of violence swept through Eastern Europe with many synagogues, Jewish homes, and businesses being vandalized and destroyed. Despite the huge lapse in time, the pain is still very much felt by the Holocaust survivors who had to live through this horrific ordeal.
The Jewish Community Council of Marine Park and Nachas Health and Family Network, headed by Rizy Horowitz, will be hosting a memorable event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht called “A Celebration of Life and Light.”
Avraham Groll, Director of JewishGen, will be delivering a keynote address to the assembly. At 12:30, Consul General of Sweden Annika Rembe will be given an award on behalf of the Wallenberg Family. 150 Holocaust survivors will be in attendance as we celebrate their resilience and instill some light into their lives with a gift: the launching of a new Yiddish CD titled Shiri Hapleita.
This CD is unique as it contains songs composed before WWII. All songs are sung by trained singer and cantor Shea Rubinstein. 3000 copies of this one of a kind CD will be distributed to the Holocaust survivors through JCC’s and social service organizations. There will be a special singing presentation by Shea Rubinstein and Lev voices choir, a Hillel Kapnick production.
