In Dialogue: Polish-Jewish Relations
May 5 , 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
This past year, tensions between the Polish government and international Jewish community rose following a controversial law making it an offense to accuse Poland of participating in the Holocaust or other Nazi crimes. According to the U.S. State Department, this new law “could undermine free speech and academic discourse.”
This conference is the conclusion of the 2018-2019 In Dialogue: Polish Jewish Relations series, exploring the complex history of Poland and the shared past of Polish Jews and Christians.
Scholars Lukasz Kryzanowski, Anna Cichopek-Gajraj, Gabriel Finder, Irena Grudzinska-Gross, Erica Lehrer, Magda Teter, and Katrin Stoll will present on Polish-Jewish relations after World War II. The day culminates in a discussion on Polish-Jewish relations in the postwar era, including contemporary issues such as Poland’s new contentious law. This final panel, moderated by Andrew Silow-Carroll (Editor-in-Chief of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency), includes scholars Michael Steinlauf, Stanislaw Krajewski, and Anna Bikont.
