Jewish Currents will host a live webinar on Jewish wealth and philanthropy with Temple University professor Lila Corwin Berman and visual artist Danielle Durchslag. They will share their work about the complex histories and representations of American Jewish class ascension in this hour-long digital presentation. Berman, a historian of American Jews, will discuss the central transformations in American state policy and Jewish communal politics that empowered mega-donor philanthropy and massive endowments to serve as a voice for the people. Durchslag makes art about the political and psychological complexities of American Jewish wealth, the context and culture she grew up in. She will be sharing short video pieces from her BOUNTY art series that employ animation, voice artists, and editing techniques to transform classic film depictions of dynastic wealth into honest, revealing stories of the Jewish 1%. A discussion, with Q & A, will follow the presentations. To register for this event, fill out the form here.
