“Currents” by Mayumana
March 3 , 4:00 pm
Lehman Center for the Performing Arts and GOYA Foods are proud of present Mayumana for their debut performance at Lehman Center on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 4 pm.
Israeli performance troupe Mayumana brings its electrifying show “Currents,” inspired by the historical Battle of Currents between Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla in their quest for finding energy sources for the world, to Lehman Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, March 3rd, 2019 at 4:00pm.
Tickets are on sale now, $45, $40, $25 | Children 12 & under $10 any seat, at Lehmancenter.org, by phone at 718-960-8833, and at the Lehman Center Box Office, 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx NY, 10468.
“Currents” combines a variety of elements: specially made musical instruments, video art projections and 11 skilled performers in constant movement, playing on different instruments and musically juggling between different sounds.
Audiences are taken on a journey between two groups, each representing a different view of the essence of light and electricity and each inspired by a different aesthetic and artistic approach, all of which are presented as a dialogue through unique sounds, lights and visual effects.
The power of each Mayumana creation comes from the strong emphasis placed on the unity and synchronization of the group as a whole. At the same time, the talent and beauty of the individual performer is highlighted and celebrated. The playfulness extends beyond the stage, reaching out to engage in direct interactions with its audiences of all ages and cultures.
Sixteen years later with performers from more than 20 different nationalities, Mayumana has become one of Israel’s leading cultural exports. It has entertained millions of people around the world with its international touring cast, as well as in its home theatre, The Mayumana House, at the old harbor of Jaffa.
Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. is supported, in part, with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the New York City Council. The 2018-2019 Season is also made possible through the sponsorships by Goya Foods, New York State Council on the Arts, Con Edison, the Hyde and Watson Foundation, Havana Café, and the Friends of Lehman Center.
