A Very Jewish Christmas: Toledot Yeshu, a Jewish Anti-Gospel

December 22, 2021 , 7:00 pm

YIVO presents “A Very Jewish Christmas: Toledot Yeshu, a Jewish Anti-Gospel,” a talk by Azzan Yadin-Israel on the history of a satirical, carnivalesque anti-gospel telling the story of a magical but not divine Jesus and the tradition of reading this story dramatically on Christmas Eve. The talk will be followed by an English-Yiddish bilingual reading of it by Shane Baker and Eleanor Reissa. For those attending the event in person ($25), there will be a kosher Chinese food feast following the presentation. Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination with matching ID is required in order to enter the Center for Jewish History. Reservations and information here.
