A Child’s Memories of Auschwitz
April 9 , 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Tova Friedman, who miraculously survived Auschwitz as a 5-year-old child, is the Director of Jewish Family Services in Highland Park, N.J. Her experiences were published in the book, “Kinderlager: An Oral History of Young Holocaust Survivors,” by Milton Nieuwsma.
In the camp, she was stripped of her persona with the mark of Auschwitz, A27633, which she still retains. When people ask her about getting rid of the tattoo, she responds by saying “The world should be ashamed, not me.” Friedman also has taken part in a PBS documentary on the Holocaust and speaks frequently to educate people of all walks of life, especially students.
Tova Friedman, who has four children and five grandchildren, spends much of her time speaking about her experiences during the Shoah in schools and to organizations.
Free and open to the public.
Free parking is available in Lots 5/14.
