2,000 Years of Italian Jewish History

There have been Jewish communities on the Italian peninsula for over two millennia and a Jewish presence in Rome before Christianity. A professor of modern European history, Stanislao Pugliese offers a discussion on ancient, medieval and modern Italian Jewish history and culture including literature, theology, musical composition, politics, and the fluid position of Jews in Italian society. There will be a special emphasis on the modern period since the unification of 1861, as well as a focus on the rise of fascism and the anti-fascist response. Professor Pugliese will also discuss the Shoah in Italy, with on epilogue on post-World War II life.
