Anti-Semitism Still An Issue

The article “Anti-Semitic Incidents in U.S.” (April 28) illustrates two problems. The first is obvious: the fact that bias exists. The concerns it raises are clear. The second, however, may, in the long run, be of greater significance. According to the article, “an ADL survey earlier this month found that only 14 percent of Americans hold anti-Semitic views.”

“Only 14 percent”? That’s one in seven Americans, but the Anti-Defamation League and The Jewish Week don’t seem especially disquieted over the number. It’s hard to imagine the percentage that would be necessary to cause alarm. How much worse must it become before we recognize that there is a serious problem that requires a better education of our citizens, or aliyah?
