It is rare that we mourn the passing of a 93-year-old while pondering if he departed this world before his time. For surely such an inspirational, visionary leader still had more to offer. Shimon Peres was at once a pragmatist and a dreamer, a warrior and a peace maker.

He was a founding father of the nascent Jewish state and a fighter for a country that would provide secure sanctuary for a hitherto persecuted people. An eloquent statesman and dignified diplomat, his hand nevertheless remained outstretched in a ceaseless pursuit of partners in peace who would help him to realize his dream of a brighter future for all in the region.

They don’t make them like Shimon Peres anymore and it is unlikely that they ever will again.
