Cover Both Sides

The interview with New York Times’ Jewish reporters was interesting and included two comments that [highlight] the problem (“With Times Under Siege, Jewish Reporters Hit Back,” May 24).

The reporters referred to the fact that not enough has been said about the responsibility for the plight of the Palestinians being largely the fault of their own government. We see lots of articles about Israeli activity and the current status of the Palestinians, but nothing about the different educational systems, the failure of the Palestinian Authority (PA) to use the billions of dollars received to build homes and jobs, the fact that the intifadas caused hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to lose their freedom to travel and income.

If balance is the goal, then we need to cover both sides equally — not based on the freedom of the press in Israel versus the opaqueness of the PA.
