New York journalist Marisa Fox’s mother, Tamar Fromer Fox, was a self-proclaimed freedom fighter and hero of the Israeli War of Independence. Many family members were murdered at Auschwitz, but Tamar avoided conversation about her own survival. After her death, however, Marisa discovers her mother had a hidden identity, finding records of imprisonment in a women’s forced labor camp where thousands of teenage girls from her hometown of Sosnowiec, Poland, had been trafficked. Marisa transformed her 7-year search into the documentary “By A Thread: A Daughter’s Search for her Mother’s Hidden Identity.”
